Coaching Staff

Head Coach Mark Cook:

This is Coach Cook’s 4th year with the Maple Grove Girl’s Basketball program. Before coaching the girls, Coach Cook spent 2 seasons as the Sophomore Boy’s Basketball Coach for Maple Grove High School. Coach Cook has also been with the Maple Grove Freshman Football Program for the last 9 seasons and spent one year as the 8^th grade basketball coach at Maple Grove Junior High. He is in his 9th year teaching Social Studies at Osseo Junior High. Coach Cook and his son Cade live in Maple Grove, MN.

Assistant Varsity Coach Craig Maus:

Craig returns to Maple Grove having coached in the boys program for 4 seasons. Coach Maus' basketball experience also includes serving as assistant coach for the Women's basketball program at Augsburg College, OMGBA girls basketball coach and working for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Craig his wife Emily and daughter Caroline live in Robbinsdale, MN and daughters Karen and Abbey attend Gustavus Adolphus College.

Junior Varsity Coach Ellen Wiese:

This will be Coach Wiese's second year coaching with the Maple Grove Girl's Basketball program. Coach Wiese previously coached in Wayzata's travel program for 8 years and has coached many elite AAU teams. She is currently the 15U coach for the Minnesota Metro Stars. Coach Wiese has her own law practice and lives in Maple Plain.

Sophomore Coach Rich Irvin:

Coach Irvin is in his 4th year with the Maple Grove Girl’s Basketball program. After spending several years working as an engineer in the Southeast, Coach Irvin returned to Minnesota 8 years ago to teach math and be near his family once again. Coach Irvin has been teaching math at Maple Grove Senior High for the last 4 years. He currently makes his home in Maple Grove.

Assistant Sophomore Coach Peter Johnson:

This is Coach Johnson’s 5th year with the Maple Grove Girls Basketball program. Coach Johnson has also been with the Maple Grove fast pitch softball program for the past 5 seasons. He is a graduate of North Park University in Chicago Illinois with a degree in Physical Education. He is currently a long term substitute DAPE teacher in the Elk River school district. Coach Johnson lives with his wife, Anna Jean, in Plymouth.

9 "A" Grade Coach Derek Ward:

Coach Ward has been coaching girl’s basketball in the district since 1991. This is his 3rd in the Crimson program. He also coaches Football and Fast Pitch Softball for the Crimson. He and his wife Terry have two sons Nick and Conor.

9 “B” Coach Bruce Johnsen:

This is Coach Johnsen's 18th year working with the ninth grade girls basketball team. Coach Johnsen has also been with the Maple Grove Football Program for the 13 years MGSH has been open. Mr. Johnsen was the head baseball coach at Park Center for five years, and has been an assistant football coach at both Park Center and Osseo. He is in his twenty sixth year teaching Physical Education at both Brooklyn Jr. High and Maple Grove Jr. He lives in Maple Grove with his wife Janet, has three daughters, Tara, Brooke, and Ashley, and two grandson's Landon and Cooper.
